Barbie turns 50!

Barbie dolls..don't know why I am blogging about this...guess its because I watched a CBC Sunday story on Barbie's 50th birthday! Did you love paying with Barbies as a child? How many did you own?
The next time I go home, I am going to buy myself a Malaysian Barbie. I think they have her in the traditional costume. I also wouldn't mind the Chinese Princess Barbie.
Thoughts? You had to play with Barbie with friends...she was not as much fun to play with on your own except for dressing and undressing. Certainly she was great for the imagination. More than anything else she allowed girls to dream...over the decades Barbie has also grown and changed the role of women. So with International Women's Day today...March 8...why not also celebrate Barbie.

  1. I loved my Barbie dolls that I had. My favourite was Barbie's little sister, Skipper. I always wanted the big dream home. I loved dressing my Barbie in her gowns and lots of pretending - good times.

  2. I have the 50 year old Barbie they are showing on the tv. Yes I had the one with the stripped bathing suit and pony tail hair-do.
The ear rings were straight pins with pearls on them. Not kid friendly but they worked. I still have her, Skipper and a bunch of 60's clothes in my trunk....they are quite funny to see - especially the colours.
